How to plan a Peruvian program
Book before the season opens
Packing houses allocate volume early. Programs agreed before the first harvest get better calibers and prices.
Commit to a weekly flow
A fixed number of containers per week is easier to supply than one large order, and keeps your shelves steady.
Inspect the first load closely
The first container sets the standard for the season. Make sure it matches your spec before it sails.
Watch the handovers
Quality risk rises at the start and end of each window, when fruit comes from new or late regions.
Avocado congestion
From June to August, Peru and South Africa overlap in Europe and prices fall. Mid calibers 14 to 18 hold value best.
Mango and grape treatments
US bound mangoes need hot water treatment and grapes need cold treatment. Both add time, so plan the booking around it.
